(AJ-eh-LAY-ick) An adjective, characterizing a creature or person that needs to be part of a group. Derived from the Greek word αγελαῖος, meaning “belonging to a herd.”
Sheep are agelaic; they panic if the flock leaves them behind. Sometimes birds behave agelaicly; as when the flock takes off suddenly and one bird gets left behind – it may try desperately to catch up and rejoin the flock. Likewise, some people are agelaic; we see them commonly in malls, where they always move in groups and go where the others go.
